A 22-year-old inmate at Tamworth Correctional Centre has died in hospital.
Corrective Services New South Wales says officers at the facility found Tane Chatfield unresponsive in his cell at 9am, last Wednesday.
He was taken across the road to Tamworth Hospital, where he later died.
The Corrective Services Investigation Unit, which is part of the New South Wales Police Force, is investigating and will prepare a report on the death.
The incident will also be referred to the New South Wales Coroner.
Corrective Services New South Wales says the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
