An elderly man is fighting for his life, after the car he was in collided with a truck in Casino just before 10.30 this morning.
It took emergency services more than half an hour to free the occupants, who were trapped inside the wreckage.
The pair, both in their 80s, were rushed to Lismore Base Hospital – the female driver, unconscious, and the male passenger, suffering serious head and chest injuries.
Police say the car was travelling through the Hickey Street intersection when it collided with the truck, travelling east along the Bruxner Highway.
Traffic diversion were in place for more than five hours, as crash investigators worked on the scene.
The truck driver was taken to Casino Memorial Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
