POLICE INVESTIGATE REPORTS OF GUNFIRE IN WALLSEND

Shots have reportedly been fired at a Newcastle unit overnight.

Members of the public reported hearing the two gun shots, just before 11pm on Abbott Street in Wallsend.

When police arrived, a resident showed them gunshot damage to the walls of his unit.

Two men, aged 30 and 33, from an adjoining unit were taken to Waratah Police Station, but they were later released pending further inquiries.

There are no reports of injury from the incident.
