$15,000 FINE FOR HV OPERATIONS

A Hunter Valley company has been issued a $15,000 fine for polluting Bayswater Creek.

HV Operations self-reported the incident to the Environment Protection Authority after a sediment sump overflowed into Bayswater Creek in March this year.

It’s believed 240 kilolitres of water containing sediment made its way into the waterway.

HV Operations had previously identified the sump as a potential risk and had obtained development approval to construct a larger sediment basin, but the company had not put in place measures to mitigate discharge in the period prior to the commissioning of the sediment basin.
