A man and his dog have had a lucky escape after their boat’s motor failed off the coast of Ballina last night.
Police tasked the Ballina Jet Boat Rescue after two flares were spotted off Lighthouse Beach, around 9pm.
“We activated the jet boat the guys headed out and found a small boat just off the surf zone at Lighthouse Beach.”
The man said he made several attempts to signal nearby fishermen from his boat, before lighting the flares.
He and his dog are now safely on their way back home, to Victoria.
