NORTHSTARS FALL SHORT IN AIHL TITLE DEFENCE

The Newcastle Northstars won’t get the chance to defend their Australian Ice Hockey League title, after being hammered 6-1 by the Melbourne Mustangs over the weekend.
The visitors raced out to a four-nil lead, before Newcastle grabbed a consolation goal in the third period.

The Northstars have won just 10 of their 25 games this season, and will round out their campaign with three straight fixtures at home.
