Gallows Beach in Coffs Harbour was closed for a short time today, after an aircraft spotted a large shark.
It was believed to be a Great White or Tiger shark, and was seen 400-metres off the coast just after 11am.
Lifeguards weren’t taking any chances, forcing surfers out of the water.
“They said it was around the 4 metre mark, I don’t know how accurate that can be out of an aircraft, but we’ll take it as gospel and it’s been a confirmed sighting and we’ll do the right thing.”
The beach reopened at around 12:30.
