A leisure group bike ride took a horror turn yesterday after a 50 year old fell 15 metres down an embankment on the Gwydir Highway about 70 kilometres west of Grafton.
Paramedics say the Brisbane man lost control as he attempted to negotiate a bend, and hit a guardrail before falling down the side of the mountain.
The Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter was called to winch the man to safety.
He was taken to Coffs Harbour with serious leg and chest injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.
