WALLSEND NURSING HOME FAILS TO MEET STANDARDS
Hunter New England Health has been forced to defend claims residents of an aged care home in Wallsend have been receiving sub-standard care.
A recent audit conducted by the federal government, claims the facility has not been meeting basic requirements.
PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR FULL STATEMENT FROM HUNTER NEW ENGLAND HEALTH:
“The health and wellbeing of our residents at the Wallsend Aged Care Facility is our priority.
On receiving the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency’s feedback, we immediately put in place a plan to address each of the points raised.
The facility is now fully compliant in relation to criminal record checks for all unit and maintenance staff, and contractors.
Three additional health support staff have been recently recruited to the facility to assist with catering, cleaning and laundry services.
We have also put in place an action plan which addresses our privacy and communication practices and includes further education opportunities for our staff.
The facility meets the standard for occupational health and safety and for fire, security and other emergencies. An ongoing program to address the maintenance and living environment feedback and to improve the environment for residents and their visitors is underway. This includes painting throughout the facility and new furniture.”
