SHAKE-UP FOR BLACK DIAMOND AFL
Black Diamond AFL looks set for a dramatic overhaul.
Multiple sides – including two from the Central Coast – may be promoted next year as the competition moves into a controversial 11-team format.

I would strongly suggest that this issue be investigated and more fairly reported.
The BDAFL does NOT have the support of the NSWAFL for the draconian ‘Equalisation Policy’ planned for implementation in season 2018.
For example, where was the mention of the BDAFL reducing (yes reducing) the current Men’s divisions from 3 to 2 and limiting the Women’s comp to 1 division, 1 team per club?
You need to see the comments on the BDAFL Facebook site to get a sense of the undercurrent of negativity that has descended on the supporters and players. Not one positive comment was read.
In addition, the BDAFL is one of the last leagues around the country yet to affiliate with the AFL despite numerous requests by the NSWAFL. In fact the BDAFL has twice been advised in writing from the NSWAFL that failure to drop the proposed Equalisation Policy by 31/10/2017 will result in the BDAFL being deregistered by the AFL.
Can I strongly suggest that contact be made with the NSWAFL for their views?
I don’t understand how making 5 second division teams play up in the first division league will equalise the playing field. If anything it will make the situation worse……
I heard them say this is for the long term , so why is it not gradually being implemented over that time? Seems like a sudden and drastic change that is going to cause a lot of trouble in the short term.
This move by BDAFL is a ” back to the future ” concept. They are simply returning to how it used to be. But the reason that the divisionalised system was introduced in the first place was because clubs were being thrashed week in week out by the stronger clubs ( Newcastle City / Terrigal Avoca/ Cardiff). It seems little if any consideration is given to the hard work these clubs do to put teams on the field each year.
This ” new ” proposal will actually result in a reduction of players for some clubs with NO GUARANTEE that these players will go to another club to play.
For a long time there has been consternation about there only being one club in the Newcastle City council region ( Newcastle City club) …but one major drawback in re-establishing another club in the inner city area is that the BDAFL have permitted the loss of what used to be dedicated AFL grounds to other codes within this council area…so a new club has no- where to play. Last year proved that 2 clubs simply cannot share Newcastle No1 Sports Ground particularly when the ground staff can simply close the ground at the slightest sniff of any rain falling.
Rather than place blame on clubs that actually develop players and promote themselves within their local community which in turn produces players that CHOSE to play for that club……the BDAFL should concentrate on regaining playing grounds as a first step to establishing an alternate playing option within the Newcastle City area.
If there is only one club in this area then it is only natural that people will WANT to play for that club rather than have to travel longer distances for training.
I never thought it was up to BDAFL to decide where players can play.
