THORNTON HOME DESTROYED IN BLAZE

Six people have had a lucky escape, after a home was destroyed by fire, north-west of Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to the property on Singleton Avenue at Thornton just before 3am.

Fortunately a couple and their two sons, as well as two other people inside, managed to escape.

Police say the boys were taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation.

The cause of the blaze is still unknown, but authorities are treating it as suspicious.
