MidCoast Council is warning residents to be on the lookout, after a cane toad was recently spotted in Hawks Nest.
There has never been a breeding population in the area, and ecologist Matt Bell says it could be devastating for native wildlife.
“We know that when they have invaded natural areas we have lost a lost of the precious wildlife of that area. So having them come into our area, we’re presently free of cane toads at the moment, so it would be catastrophic,” said Matt Bell.
Mr Bell says if you find one, contact council immediately.
