It’s believed a curtain catching alight from a candle caused a unit fire in a Newcastle suburb overnight.
The fire took hold around 8pm at the unit on Turton Road in Waratah.
It took seven fire crews around 30 minutes to control the blaze.
The ground floor unit has been extensively damaged, with three other units damaged by smoke.
No one was injured, but approximately 20 people were evacuated.
