The Orica plant on Newcastle’s Kooragang Island plant has been fined by the EPA for releasing heavy metals.
The incident was reported in March, and involved a build-up of sediment in a pipe.
When dislodged, it released high levels of zinc and arsenic.
Despite not finding any evidence of environmental damage, the EPA has fined Orica $15,000.
