78 PEOPLE CAUGHT DRINK DRIVING AS PART OF TWO DAY OPERATION

A 37-year-old man will face court later this month, after allegedly returning a breath test more than seven times the legal limit on the state’s far north coast.

Police say the Queensland man was stopped on the M1 at Tweed Heads at around 9:30 when he returned the positive result.

A secondary test returned an alleged reading of 0.362.

More than 8,000 breath tests were conducted as part of the two day operation between Tweed Heads and Ballina, with almost 80 people caught drink driving.

“While we have 78 people going before the courts in the coming weeks, we also spoke to a considerable number of drivers who were perilously close to being over the limit themselves”, said Peter McMenamin, Far North Region Traffic Tactician Inspector.
