FOLEY QUESTIONS SLOW FLOOD RELIEF PAYMENTS

The State Opposition Leader has criticised the slow distribution of Category C disaster relief payments for those affected by recent flooding.

Visiting Lismore today, Luke Foley said many business owners are waiting to be reimbursed, after paying for repairs themselves.

“Surely a more sensible arrangement would be you get quotes and then get your $15,000 grant from the government. That small measure, a common-sense measure, would make life so much easier for a lot of our small business people.”

The Labor leader also believes a statewide promotional effort is needed to attract visitors to Lismore – a view shared by Mayor Isaac Smith.

“When a lot of the hullabaloo has died down, Lismore’s still here and Lismore businesses still need help, so three months from now, some tourism marketing and that sort of extra spending’s going to make a big difference.”
