There’s been a spike in the number of sharks tagged on the North Coast.
In the past two weeks, the Department of Primary Industries has tagged and released at least five great whites between Evans Head and Ballina.
The largest, 3.1-metres long, caught and tagged off South Wall in Ballina.
All five were caught on DPI SMART drum lines.
There’s currently 25 lines in operation – that will increase to 35 when the government removes shark nets next month.
