PARAMEDIC ATTACKED WITH A KNIFE IN PORT STEPHENS
A man is accused of trying to stab a paramedic, who was attempting to treat him in Port Stephens.
Just before 10:45pm yesterday, two paramedics attended a house on John Parade in Lemon Tree Passage, to treat a 37-year-old male patient.
Police say the man became agitated and uncooperative when was told he would be taken to hospital for treatment.
As they continued with the examination, the patient has allegedly grabbed a knife and swung it at one of the paramedics.
Police arrived a short time later, only to discover the patient had locked himself in a garage.
Officers spoke to the man and he eventually unlocked the door, before being taken to the Mater Hospital under police guard.
Charges are expected to be laid upon his release from hospital.
The paramedic was not injured during the altercation.
