DEMOLITION OF KURRI KURRI SMELTER MOVING FORWARD

Moves to demolish Hydro Aluminium’s Kurri Kurri plant have taken another step forward, with stage one to begin this month.

CMA Contracting will conduct the work, starting with the removal of most of the buildings on site.

Hydro is still seeking approval from Cessnock Council for stage two, which involves demolishing the major infrastructure, including the chimney stacks.

The project is expected to take around two to three years.
