CAMPHOR LAURELS SITUATION PUT IN PERSPECTIVE

Arborists have added their latest findings to the debate about removing trees from the centre of Bellingen.

Tree surgeons say the large Camphor Laurels are dying and are prone to weakness in their joints.

This could leave council liable if a limb were to break and injure someone.

Since 2002, expert advice has been that the plants, which are classified as weeds in New South Wales, are not suitable for the surroundings.

Those wanting the trees to stay say they are popular with children and have been there for around 100 years.

  1. Despite Community opposition and many meetings with Bellingen Council, where they denied that the destruction of Church Street Cafe precinct was imminent, they have already hired Andrew’s Tree Services Coffs Harbour to kill our beautiful shade trees this Sunday.
I have spoken to reputable arborists, who confirm that these trees are neither sick, nor dying, nor dangerous, and will live another 1000 years or more, if we let them. So instead, Council choose to again take the advice of ‘tree loppers’ with a conflict of interest ie. Dollars, instead of qualified arborists who tell the truth.
This is a council with a Green Mayor and Green Councillor voted in at the last election, who promised to be transparent and inclusive, and listen to the community! Us the ratepayers! ALL LIES! Just to get elected!
Surely if elected officials are proven to lie to the community, should they not lose their jobs??
