BELMONT RESIDENT CHASES OFF ARMED INTRUDER
Police have apprehended a man after he allegedly broke into a property near Lake Macquarie before being chased off by a resident.
Around 11am yesterday, police allege the 29-year-old broke into a home on the Pacific Highway in Belmont, armed with a knife.
An 18-year-old male resident confronted the alleged intruder, who fled into a neighbouring high school.
He was seen by police travelling on the Pacific Highway, who stopped to intervene.
The man was apprehended after a short chase, but not before he allegedly lashed out at the officers.
He will appear in court to face charges including aggravated break and enter with intent while armed, assault police and resist arrest.
