Newcastle’s Anglican Diocese has conceded it failed to appropriately respond when people came forward to report abuse, and seek assistance.
The admission follows today’s release of the written submissions from the sex abuse Royal Commission hearings in Newcastle and Sydney.
While the commission is yet to deliver its findings, the church says the submissions recount the horrendous experience of children and their families.
Two bishops stood aside during the course of the inquiry.
