PORT MACQUARIE WAR MEMORIAL VANDALISED
A 47-year-old man will face court next month, accused of vandalising a war memorial in Port Macquarie.
It’s alleged he defaced the monument with chalk shortly before 2am.
Officers arrested the man, after a member of the public called police…he was later charged with malicious damage.
The incident comes less than a month out from ANZAC Day commemorations.
The Port Macquarie RSL Sub-Branch President, Greg Laird, says he’s shocked and disappointed, “not just for the veteran community, but the town.”
Thankfully most of the chalk washed off in this morning’s rain.
The man’s been granted bail and is due to appear before court on April 12.
We’ll have more details in tonight’s news at six.
