CENTRAL COAST MP CRAIG THOMSON CUTS TIES WITH LABOR

Suspended Labor MP Craig Thomson has cut ties with the Labor party today, saying he will contest the Central Coast seat of Dobell as an independent in the September election.
The MP is fighting civil and criminal charges over the alleged misuse of Health Services Union member funds when he was the union’s national secretary.
He says his decision to stand in the election shows he is confident of beating the charges.
“You don’t put yourself up for public office again and again. You certainly don’t do that if you are expecting an adverse finding in terms of where this may lead to,” Mr Thomson told ABC Radio.
After being suspended by the party in May last year, Mr Thomson continued to sit in the House of Representatives.
The ALP will now need to endorse a new candidate for the Central Coast seat.
