DOLLS PREPARING FOR TOUR
Artists in Tamworth now have the chance to display their work to the nation.
Noongar dolls made in the north west today, will debut at a show in Tamworth in October, before embarking on a two-year tour.
“It’s one of the first instances where we’re having quite a presence of artists from Tamworth. And a few of the artists that we’re also working with from Sydney and Melbourne are sort of very keen to work with other artists in Tamworth.”
The Indigenous-style creations use personal items, to show a connection between and their culture.
Perth’s Sharyn Egan says there’s also therapeutic benefits.
“Part of you goes into it. While you’re there, you’re thinking and it brings up memories of people you know. Lost loved ones, and it’s a very healing process.”
