UPDATE: MAN CHARGED FOLLOWING 17-HOUR STAND-OFF
A man has been charged with 20 offences, following a 17-hour stand-off with police in Newcastle.
At around midday yesterday, police were responding to reports of a stolen car at Tighes Hill when they found a man on the roof of an apartment complex.
Tactical officers spent the day negotiating with the 27-year-old, before he was eventually taken into custody just before five this morning.
It’s alleged the man was involved in a crime spree which started with the theft of a car in Sydney, followed by a triple stabbing at a gym in Brookvale and two service station robberies in the Hunter.
He’s due to face Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.
