Narrabri community group – People for the Plains – has lost its legal battle against gas mining giant Santos.
The group argued the company’s Leewood waste water facility was unlawful, because it had been given approval without an environmental impact statement or public consultation.
Today three court of appeal judges ruled in favour of Santos…In line with last year’s Land and Environment Court ruling.
A Santos spokesperson says the Leewood facility was subject to a rigorous state government approvals process.
The community group is now calling for tougher environmental laws.
