There is more than one side to sustainability , Fishing businesses carry out a 1950’s business with 1950’s incomes but with 2017 costs . Many might think that fishers make a motsa but those who catch fish and market them in Australia are up against Australian’s expectation that foodstuff’s should be cheap and reality is , The food industry is the most competitive industry on earth . It’s the fishermen who supply fresh fish to the Australian public who are really suffering , And now government is placing more costs and restrictions on an industry that was barely hanging on already . Australia’s fishing industry needs to be sustainable , be able to continue , The plethora of restrictions and reforms are already not workable and now fishers will be throwing away product because of the catch caps rather than face hefty fines , confiscation of equipment and cancellation of licences . Their situation was already desperate , soon , supplying fish for the local market will be totally unworkable !!
