NEWCASTLE SHOW HANDED LIFELINE
The struggling Newcastle Show has been given a lifeline, with the state government chipping in $40,000.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Catherine Cusack, has also announced a review to investigate alternative revenue streams to keep the iconic event afloat beyond this year.
“This one-off grant from the NSW Government ensures the opportunity for the Newcastle Regional Show to survive and thrive in recognition of the value of the Show to the local community. Going forward, Venues NSW will work with the Show Society to ensure a sustainable future for this iconic local Show,” she said.
The show association has been in financial trouble since 2008, when the showground’s ownership and management was handed over to Venues NSW.
