MURDER VICTIM’S FAMILY CALLS FOR MAXIMUM SENTENCE
Newcastle Supreme Court today heard convicted murderer Graham Sloane, has never revealed why he killed mother of four Renee Mitchell back in 2014.
During Sloane’s sentence hearing this morning, Renee Mitchell’s mother-in-law delivered a pointed victim impact statement on behalf of Renee’s husband, Dale Mitchell.
Mr Mitchell described Renee’s murder as “like a nightmare you can’t wake up from” and that the “grief remains overpowering.”
Outside court, her family called for the maximum penalty available to be handed down.
Earlier this month, a jury found 68-year-old Sloane guilty murdering 38-year-old Mrs Mitchell in November 2014, taking her from her Windale home and stabbing her to death at a nearby park.
Supreme Court Justice, Helen Wilson has adjourned the matter until next week, to hand down her sentence.
