The Biripi people and their cultural heritage have been honoured in Taree today, with the unveiling of a new sculpture.
The University of Newcastle’s Manning Education Centre is now home to a 2.5 metre wooden carving, made by Biripi elder Russell Saunders.
“It encourages my people to that there’s something the can put their dream into, become a doctor, a nurse or someone in the medical profession,” Russell says.
The sculpture depicts a number of significant symbols, artefacts and animals.
