He scored just one point in the opening round of the Air Race series overnight, but Merewether pilot Matt Hall was happy to finish 10th in a rental aircraft in Abu Dhabi.
The 2016 runner-up is still waiting for his new race plane, which is due to be ready before round two.
The series now moves to San Diego for the first time on April 15.
