POLICE ISSUE EMAIL SCAM WARNING

Police are again warning Northern Rivers residents to be on the lookout for scam emails.

Malicious messages, appearing to be from the Australian Federal Police, Paypal and the Tax Office, are currently circulating.

“A lot of these scams are committed by people outside of the country, and outside our jurisdiction as state police. It is difficult, to then chase that money down and also arrest those perpetrators.”

Fraud cases throughout the region have steadily risen over the last year.

Anybody who receives a suspicious email, should check with the sender by phone, before opening it.
