CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION INTO BYRON HEALTH STAFFING
The New South Wales Shadow Minister for Health, Walt Secord, is calling for an investigation into staffing levels at the new Byron Central Hospital and Byron ambulance station.
It follows claims a woman spent 13 hours in the emergency department with a bowel obstruction waiting for a hospital transfer, because there weren’t enough staff to treat her.
Mr Secord says it’s ludicrous to have a new $88 million hospital without adequate staffing levels.
The Northern New South Wales Local Health District issued a statement apologising for the lengthy delays, but said an internal review had found no issue with staffing levels on the night.
