A 26-year-old man is waiting to face court in Maitland, accused of starting yesterday’s bushfire at Kurri Kurri.
He was arrested at a home in Weston and later charged with intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread.
The blaze broke out at around 11:30am near Boundary Street at Kurri Kurri and destroyed more than 30-hectares of bushland.
It came dangerously close to several homes and businesses – remarkably no property was damaged.
Fire crews were assisted by waterbombing aircraft, which dropped fire retardant and water on the blaze.
