Meanwhile, severe storms have lashed the region this afternoon, with reports of roofs being blown off homes in Gunnedah and trees being uprooted in Manilla, Walcha and Tamworth.
The heavy rain hit just after 2 o’clock, with wind gusts of more than 95 kilometres an hour recorded in Gunnedah.
More severe thunderstorms are forecast for this evening, with the Bureau of Meteorology extending its weather warning to parts of the Northern Tablelands.
Tonight’s opening concert in Bicentennial Park will still go ahead.
