Residents are watching with interest following the announcement of further contamination testing at the former Waratah Gasworks site in Newcastle.
Properties on potentially-contaminated land are the focus of the city council investigation, which the EPA will foot the $200,000 bill for.
The gasworks site operated between 1889 and 1928… testing will look for any buried legacies such as tars, oils and toxic waste.
The investigation will also determine whether any contaminants found pose a risk to residents.
