Traffic is expected to get heavier on Hunter roads this evening, as thousands of drivers return from interstate.
Queues began building from as early as midday at several locations across the region.
It was slow going on the New England Highway from John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield through to Hexham, with delays of up to 10 minutes.
Anyone driving this evening is urged to be safe, and allow for extra travel time.
