A man has drowned while attempting to help two children in distress at a beach north of Coffs Harbour.
Police say two girls got into difficulty at Wooli Beach shortly after 1pm, the man, aged in his 60s, went to their aid.
Surf Rescue pulled the children to safety, while the man was taken from the water unresponsive.
CPR was performed, but he died at the scene.
