FORMER PRIEST TO FACE SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES FROM THE 1970’S

Police have charged a former Anglican priest over alleged sexual assaults from the 1970’s.

Strike Force Arinya 2 was established in 2013 to review allegations that a man assaulted two boys at various locations around the Hunter between 1971 and 1975.

Inquiries have subsequently led to a 79-year-old man, from Ballarat, being issued a Court Attendance Notice for 20 offences, including assault with intent to commit buggery, five counts of buggery, and 14 counts of indecent assault.

A further four charges were reinstated for buggery, and three counts of indecent assault.

He will appear in court in February.
