The Hunter Wetlands Centre has remembered one of its founding fathers, who turned it from a council dump, into the thriving ecosystem it is now.
The visitor centre was today re-named after Max Maddock, who passed away earlier this year.

I have just seen and listened to the nbn news report on Max Maddock, and the Hunter Valley Wetlands project which he inspired and created.
I don’t know if any of his family will read this message, but I was a pupil at Burnie High School in Tasmania 1950- 1956. Mr Maddocks, as I knew him, taught me Geology in my last year, and I have never forgotten both his skill as a teacher, his humour and his lovely personality. Although we didn’t meet again, after 60 years, I still remember him with great affection, and am thrilled to learn of this one, of probably many achievements, in his lifetime.
Thank you Mr Maddocks, rest in peace.
