UPDATE: CREWS CONTINUE TO BATTLE ABERMAIN BUSHFIRE
Strong north westerly winds are expected to put pressure on containment lines today, as fire fighters continue to battle a large blaze at Abermain in the Hunter.
The blaze started at around 1pm yesterday and saw crews work into the night to gain the upper hand.
Conditions eased slightly overnight, which helped fire fighters conduct back burning along Carrs Road to protect properties.
The RFS says as temperatures increase, people in the area of Carrs Road, Lake Road and Leggetts Drive should monitor conditions and be alert for smoke and embers.
Firefighters are being assisted by water bombing aircraft.
The fire has now burnt through more than 800 hectares of bushland.
We’ll bring you more details throughout the day.
