Temperatures have soared into the high 30s and low 40s across the region today triggering a total fire ban that will remain in place tonight. There is some relief on the way to the south moving through the Hunter overnight and onto the MNC Saturday morning. This southerly will cool things down while dragging in moisture. This will cause morning drizzle for the Central Coast and Newcastle but the main feature will be big afternoon thunderstorms across northern NSW. This change will not clear all of the heat so inland and to the north it will remain hot with the heat returning quickly to the Great Hunter area by Monday.
