After being on the market for eight years, the Tamworth Showground has finally been sold.

Harness Racing New South Wales bought the facility, so its plans to build a new track near the New England Highway have been scrapped.

It’ll result in the Tamworth Show being moved to the AELEC from 2018, and it’ll be moved from its traditional timeslot.

“It’s a bit hot, mate. In March. September was a spot that suited us. It falls in line, Tamworth Show falls in line with Quirindi and Merriwa.”
