WEST TAMWORTH TENNIS CLUB CELEBRATES MILESTONE
After the neighbouring Bowling Club celebrated eight decades in June, a hundred people helped West Tamworth Tennis turn 80 last night.
Current President John Ball has been a member for 61 years, and says the biggest change has been the court surfaces.
“We used to have dirt courts years ago. Then we went to play on cement and now we’ve got synthetic grass. Except for court six, which is the hard court.”
With about 180 playing members, the committee is discussing ways to expand the current facility.
“I’d dearly love to see a bit more land be available somewhere, because we can’t grow until such times that we get extra courts.”
