New England Rugby Union’s first grade competition looks set to be reduce to just four teams next season.
The Glen Innes Elks have applied to drop to reserve grade, after failing to win a game in two years.
The club says a lack of players has forced the move, with the side unlikely to be competitive if forced to play at the top level in 2017.
The Elks are also looking at shifting some home games from the Showground to Rugby Park.
