SCHOOL’S BID TO REDUCE WASTE

Port Macquarie’s Tacking Point Public School is well on the way to reducing its rubbish by 60 per cent.
Students came up with the idea to build an environmentally-friendly enclosure, complete with compost and recycling areas and a chicken pen.
The Tacking Point Lions Club then became involved, putting in hours of work alongside the school’s environment team.
With support from local businesses, the project was completed, using mostly recycled building materials, and officially opened today.
The Lions Club’s efforts were acknowledged at a ceremony at the school this morning.
