WOMAN ALLEGEDLY RAMS POLICE CAR AND DRIVES INTO RIVER IN ATTEMPT TO AVOID ARREST
A woman has been charged after ramming a ute into a police car, then driving into a river in an attempt to avoid apprehension on the Gold Coast overnight.
Shortly after midnight, police allege a utility reversed into a police car after officers attempted to intercept it on Jacobs Well Rd, Pimpama.
The utility then travelled to a nearby boat ramp, with police deploying road spikes in an attempt to stop the vehicle until it eventually came to a standstill in the Broadwater.
Police attempted to rescue the driver, who tried to swim away from them. She was retrieved with the assistance of a private boat.
The woman’s dog was also rescued unharmed.
A 44-year-old Morton Vale woman has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to stop a motor vehicle, obstructing police, and willful damage of police property.
She is expected to appear in court on December 1.
