WITNESS ATTACKED AFTER INTERVENING IN AN ASSAULT ON BEAUMONT STREET
A passerby has been attacked after intervening in an assault involving a man and a woman in Newcastle this morning.
Around 12:30am this morning, a 29-year-old man and a 32-year-old female were sitting in a parked car on Beaumont Street, Hamilton.
The man allegedly assaulted the woman a number of times, before a witness – a 28-year-old man – went to intervene.
According to police, the pair in the car assaulted the witness.
Police were contacted, and the couple were located nearby, with a third man, aged 20.
The 20-year-old man has allegedly punched a police officer, and all three resisted arrest.
The younger man was charged with two counts of resist police, affray and larceny.
The woman was issued a future court attendance notice for resist/hinder police and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The older man was taken to hospital as a precaution and remains under police guard.
