MAN SHOT DEAD BY POLICE ON MID NORTH COAST
A woman has reportedly been doused in petrol, lit on fire and stabbed by a man she had met online before he was shot dead by police in a subsequent chase on the NSW Mid North Coast overnight.
Police were called to a home in Magnolia Place in Port Macquarie last night after reports a woman had been stabbed.
The victim, in her 20s, was taken to hospital suffering burns and stab wounds.
A 36-year-old man fled the scene. 9NEWS understands the woman met the man online and they had been dating for a short time.
About 9.45pm, police attempted to stop and arrest a man on the Pacific Highway near Coffs Harbour, about 150 kilometres away, after a pursuit.
There was a confrontation and the man was shot, NSW Police said.
He died at the scene.
An investigation is now underway into both incidents, with detectives investigating the circumstances surrounding the firing of a police gun.
